The Nomads and BP have been involved in brawls outside our public courthouse each week over the last 4 weeks, July 2010. It is a bit embarrassing for our community and the memory of Dennis Hines.

you make sentences for it over the top and bloody rediculous all it does is make gangsta types pull a gun out the window and aim at police,not to hurt them to scare them off cos they have meth in there car which will put them in jail for ten to 15 years,so to them they have nothing to lose and by getting away from the cops they have there freedom still.

The first comment is ignorant and holds in no regard the power of indigenous communities. We can acknowledge class as a factor in Maori incarceration, however to say that this argument is solely regarding class is ignorant because there are many different factors involved in narrative as complex as this, not just class.

God talk about a slow learner. I took one look at these people and decided I’d rather be a lawyer.

However on a positive note it’s heartening to see Marae and Kumatua all over the country to start banning the wearing of patches. If anybody can see the reality of gangs then they can.

Eloquently put Denis. I look at that picture (picture No.6)of you and the brothers on the marae, and are moved by the intrinic wairua, knowledge and talent these men embody. That may sound sentimental, but its there! And its heartening to know that there are some “old heads” as you put it, helping to reframe things both within your community and out in the general population – where the media and staus-quo holds so much sway.
