Oh and fear not. There is no danger of me upsetting things by running naked onto the grounds at Eden Park. I will be far, far away when all that is going on, and doing what I love to do - which involves clothes, gears, sweat and forests!

Bravo Mr Lamont, I'd say you only forget one thing: Cycling is a sport that captures millions as spectators or participants and has many forms that cater to all walks of lfie and levels of fitness. The Tour is the ultimate expression of a passion that engages and absorbs people in every country in the world.
Rugby on the other hand is a niche, minority sport introduced to this country to take the grunt out of Maori warrior mentalities that were causing a ruckus that interrupted the progress of white settlers in annexing the nicest bits of the country.
We are one of only a half dozen countries in the whole world that pay attention to or give a damn about this sad spectacle, grown men chasing a pigskin envelope around a paddock.
Some of us enjoy watching real athletes at the very peak of human performance and take the doping scandals in our stride because we love to see people strive for perfection.
Others watch rugby.

Good stuff, Lamont! Very interesting perspective, and superbly written - although I'll debate Ullrich not attacking Armstrong with my dying breath...

Cheers, Oli

Well said
And what would be so wrong with semi-naked women running onto the field of play at a rugby game and some matching semi excitment amongst the crowd
One point "Rabobank lends money in the Netherlands " Robobank has quite a big presence in NZ but I take your point on team sponsorship

What an interesting view of sport, I can't say I have ever watched sport and enjoyed it for any more than just what is happening in sporting terms, might add a new level of enjoyment to a Sunday afternoons television watching. I totally agree with your comment regarding the atmosphere at sevens event, very similar to that of 20twenty cricket too.
