A National Treasure!
How wonderful to find Mr Bollinger in such good company.
His entire oeuvre should be required reading for our
nation’s yoof and those of us trending towards the other
end of life’s arc – a life that has been all the more enjoyable
for periodic exposure to his illuminating and numinous gems.
Roll on the next full moon…

A Reader
Saying hes had a career is a bit of a stretch. Its not like hes actually making a living with it or anything. New Zealands ‘comics output’ is so low that this enthusiastic hobbyist gets to lay claim to whatever title or qualification he wants. No ones going to bother pulling him up on it and saying, “well hang on a minute buddy.. your not very good at making comics. so why should anyone bother with your opinion on the subject.” Dylan Horrocks could get away with it because he really is qualified.
Thats what I think anyway, but then what would I know.
the previous bitter and cowardly anonymous commentator is right on one account. no-one is going to pull him up on it and say “your not very good at making comics” because tim bollinger IS very good at it. definitely not for everyone’s taste thank god. my favourite local cartoonist by a mile… dave gurr
If hes so good at it why does he not do it for a living? Oh wait hes such a genius that hes beyond ‘all that commercial crap’ Well not really because his ‘art’ has no redeeming features on any level and the things he has to say have all been said better else where. My problem isnt with his work, the world is full of people doing work at this level. Its the fact that he insists on pushing his opinions on others work that gets me. Its like having the drunken busker down the road writing music reviews. Hes just not qualified to go shouting his little opinions. Those that can, do. Those that cant, become teachers and critics.
Chris Lynch.
And your right that does sound nasty and Bitter. I dont mean to attack the guy, hes probably a lovely bloke. But the few reviews Ive read of his, come across as very holier than thou and dismissive of work , that in alot of cases I think is beyond what he is capable of. So I apologise for any personal ‘slight’or insult. Im just trying to provide a little balance. Im just trying to point out, (To him more than anyone else) that maybe his opinions should be taken with a grain of salt. But again I apologise if Ive upset anyone unduly.
What a treat to have ‘Little Eye’ online!! A regular dose of Bollinger is exactly what I need!
Chris – the only reason Tim’s not making a living out of comics is that it’s almost impossible to do so in NZ. I only manage it by doing other work on the side, occasional grants, and of course a very supportive spouse! In a different country, it’s quite possible Tim would be doing his art full time. What amazes me is how much wonderful stuff he manages to do, even with a day job…
But I don’t want to argue; I only came on here to say thanks to Tim and to Gordon for putting these online.
I think you rock Tim
