Enjoyed reading about Golden Teardrops (also a personal fave) and the different versions of Tragedy. Interesting that while the Fleetwoods created something worthwhile out of Tragedy they somehow couldn't capture the essence of another lo-fi classic, Sonny Knight's Confidential.

I don't think the current youtube link to Tragedy is the original recording (which can be heard on one of UK label Ace Records' Golden Age of American Rock'n'Roll CDs) although it certainly sounds like the same singer and is much easier on the ears: a perfect synthesis, you could even say, of Wayne's original and the Fleetwoods' softer stylings.

I wrote a mini-essay about first hearing Golden Teardrops for a now-defunct doo wop message board which can be read at: http://sweetwordsofpismotality.blogspot.com/2009/12/golden-teardrops.html

Just a small correction required here - Brian Wilson didn't do all of the vocals on Pet Sounds - Mike Love sang lead on several, Carl Wilson sang lead on 'God only Knows' and I'm pretty sure backing vocals involved most of the Beach Boys on various tracks.
